THE PS5 release date could be far off, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be a few more console launches to rival the PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch in the meantime

But could there be a few other surprise contenders in the future?
It just so happens that the Ataribox is entering the market, much in the same way as the SNES Classic.
Following the 20-second teaser posted on YouTube, fans of the retro gaming scene have been given a few more details on what the new console will be like.
A recent message from the company to fans, reads: “Our objective is to create something new, that stays true to our heritage, while appealing to both old and new fans of Atari.”
So far, we know that there will be two versions released, both sporting different designs.
But while it will be similar to the SNES in that it will offer classic games, it will also include current content.
Fans want to know more but Atari have yet to offer anything concrete for a release date, specs or games sheet.
“We know you are hungry for more details; on specs, games, pricing, timing,” an Atari statement explains. The PS5 release date, and when it will be officially announced, have become hotly debated topics this year.
Some have backed Sony to launch their new console in the later-half of 2018, while others don’t expect to see anything from it until at least 2019.
And with the way the PS4 is selling, it’s easy to see why.
There’s also the problem of the Xbox One X arriving in November and Nintendo’s resurgence with the Nintendo Switch.
But while we may not see the PS5 release date announced just yet, it doesn’t mean there won’t be other console launches to rival the big three console competitors.
The SNES Classic Mini will arrive in late September, with pre orders already sold out.
This is unlikely to cause many sleepless nights at Microsoft or Sony HQs though, as both will already know that the SNES is having a very limited release.
It should all be wrapped by the end of 2017, leaving the way clear for the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro in 2018.
