Destiny 2’s Leviathan Raid Is About To Get Even More Challenging

If Leviathan isn't already tough enough, Destiny 2 may have something in the works to make the raid a little harder.

Unveiled just before Destiny 2‘s launch alongsitde the name of the game’s first raid, players are still anxiously awaiting the harder difficulty setting for Leviathan. The Prestige mode, which is also used in the Trials of the Nine, offers an amped up challenge for Guardians, and while the Trials currently have the option, Leviathan is still only available in Normal mode. However, as an exciting add-on, a recent leak is pointing to Challenge Modes appearing in the new difficulty once it launches.
The release date for Prestige in the raid still hasn’t been announced, but according to the first-month calendar of updates, the earliest Guardians will see it is sometime in October. While it’s odd that Trials would get Prestige and Leviathan wouldn’t, Destinypedia‘s recent finding of four Challenge emblems could be why it’s taken time to release. Seen below, the different symbols are rewarded for completing specific sections of Leviathan during the Prestige mode. Challenge modes, which were seen in the first Destiny, offer specific challenges for Guardians to complete within the event’s hardest difficulty.

One explanation for the delay could be Bungie wanted to complete the Challenge options before unveiling Prestige. While players are used to replaying events, as seen through the raid’s weekly reset for new loot, the harder difficulty will take more precision. In turn, having the option to earn the emblems in one run would be more streamlined.
In Destiny‘s Prestige modes, known as Heroic, players were required to do slightly different things than in Normal mode, such as defeat the raid boss from a particular spot on the map. While Leviathan’s Prestige setting will likely require something similar, Guardians will have to wait to see how the new and harder encounter will shake out. The good news is that, apart from emblems, players should expect unique loot that will make the extra effort feel worthy of their time.
