The U.S. Government Keeps A Game Library At Guantanamo—Here’s What’s In t

There are a lot of games at Guantanamo, but some obvious choices—like Call of Duty—are surprisingly absent.

Guantanamo Bay might be a military prison where detainees are imprisoned without due process and quite possibly tortured, but we’re not not monsters. The U.S. government wants its unconstitutional prison to be fun—at least for the staff stationed there. That’s why it keeps a bunch of video games in a library there.
Recently published documents released via the Freedom of Information Act reveal that the Gitmo library has 125 unique PlayStation 3 titles and 162 unique Nintendo DS titles.
The games are mostly nonviolent, focusing heavily on sports, racing, and action adventure games. The FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer series are both heavily featured on the list, as well as New Super Mario Bros.Legend of Zelda: Spirit TracksThe Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection, and Portal 2. Because I guess our government doesn’t see the irony in allowing a game about a woman in an orange jumpsuit escaping from a windowless facility in which she’s been long imprisoned.
Shooters are almost nonexistent, which probably requires no further explanation. That means no Call of Duty or Battlefield for anyone at Guantanamo, though apparently Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon is fine, because that one’s on the list.
Here’s the full list of games (the list starts on page 254):
