PSN down for maintenance as PS4 firmware 5.0 update gets closer

The PlayStation Network will be offline for one hour while Sony carries out essential maintenance on July 25, 2017.
According the PSN network service status website, it will affect PS4, PS4 and Vita access to the network world wide:
“Routine maintenance and improvements for PlayStation Network will be performed for approximately 1 hour on 07/25/2017, 8:00 AM to 07/25/2017, 9:00 AM (Your Local Timezone). Anyone who already has an account can still sign in to their PlayStation Network profile, play games, and use most applications while this maintenance is carried out. You will not be able to access PlayStation Video, PlayStation Store, and Account Management during this maintenance.”
Though Sony has revealed what exactly it’ll be doing while the PSN is down, it’s rumoured that preparations are being put in place for PS4 update 5.0.

The new firmware patch is rumoured to be a big one, with some features, such as the ability to change your PSN Name change, possibly part of the update.
The last major update for Sony’s flagship console arrived in the shape of 4.50, which includes features such as external hard drive support, custom wallpapers, and PS4 Pro Boost Mode.
Meanwhile, Sony is poised to announced the PlayStation Plus August gamesthis month, with Killzone ShadowFall rumored to be one of the free titles available to subscribers.
