Destiny 2’s Prestige Leviathan raid leak hints at a bigger bad
Posted to the online Destiny lore database, Ishtar Collective, letters from the Cabal emperor and Leviathan raid final boss, Calus, to the game’s main antagonist, Ghaul, have been revealed. Thankfully, two separate Reddit users, ThatTyedyeNarwhal and dobby_rams, have summarized the findings to paint a picture of what fans will learn.
While there are many nitty-gritty narrative paths fans can travel down from the leak, the major piece of information revolves around Calus’ intent to possibly unite the universe against an even greater enemy. As players learn after completing Destiny 2‘s main campaign, Ghaul rebelled against Calus, the Cabal Emperor, to take the Light of the Traveler for himself. While it’s easy to believe Calus would be just as ruthless as Ghaul toward Guardians, it seems Calus is more of a godlike figure that is more concerned with defeating the highest evil.
In the letters found from the leak, Calus details the friendship he had with Ghaul before the Red Legion leader betrayed him. It seems Ghaul was raised by the Consul force, an exiled group seeking to overpower the Cabal dictatorship, to infiltrate Calus’ empire and destroy him after gaining his trust. Calus apparently knows this and is still willing to forgive Ghaul for not only attempting to destroy the Guardians but also for agreeing to take over the Cabal empire. Of course, this adds some interesting layers to both Ghaul and Calus, but it’s unclear how Ghaul feels on his end.
Overall, players can take away that Calus, in all of his infinite wisdom and galaxy traveling, has come across a force that will wipe out everything in existence if not stopped. In turn, his letter to Ghaul gives us more of an insight into their relationship, but also sounds like a rallying cry to unite many forces, like Guardians, Vex, Taken, and Cabal, against this new evil. Whether this is “the Darkness” that was touched on in the first Destiny or something completely different is still unknown.
In true Destiny fashion, more of this space opera will play out in small reveals such as these latest letters found in Engram and gear drops. More importantly, Guardians can begin prepping to earn these pieces of loot, as the Iron Banner and Prestige Leviathan raid arrive on October 10th. However, neither event is for the causal Destiny fan, especially when seeing the Prestige raid has a recommended power level of 300. Conquering both will be worth a player’s time to earn exclusive armor sets and get a personal look at the Calus letters.
