While the steps to complete Leviathan's challenge modes are a mystery, fireteams have managed to find the solution.
While Destiny 2 players are looking forward to the many new features being implemented with the launch of Curse of Osiris, Bungie still has further content updates for the current in-game events. Recently, the standard and Prestige versions of the Leviathan raid now have their first challenge modes for players to overcome. Guardians have known the steps to conquer the challenge would be a secret solved through trial and error, but of course, several fireteams have already figured out how to complete the task.
The first Leviathan challenge takes place in the Royal Baths area of the event, which can be accessed early on when starting the raid. Fireteams have already uploaded their successful runs on YouTube, such as Mesa Sean’s video below, which gives a step by step visual of how to trigger and conquer the challenge.
There needs to be at least one player standing in each of two of the main areas: the lamp room and the pool room. Both areas contain plates holding a buff for the match, which will come in handy for the Guardian tasked with staying in that room. Once the Guardians trigger the four plates in the lamp room, the challenge begins. The goal is to destroy the nine lamps hanging in the pool room once the shields are down, but the fireteam can only accomplish this by having one player standing in the pool and one standing in the lamp room at all times. It’s imperative the guarding player doesn’t move outside of the pool at all, and that includes jumping up to aim for far away enemies.
In Mesa Sean’s video, the fireteam decides to move counterclockwise by having each person monitoring the plates take out the waves of enemies from their location. Once a wave is defeated, another Guardian takes their spot to let the other player move on to the next room and kill enemies outside of the two areas. After the allotted number of enemies is defeated, the shields drop to allow the fireteam to blast away at the lamps.
While Mesa Sean and other YouTubers that completed the challenge report the normal version isn’t too hard, the Prestige version drastically amps up the difficulty, so it’s recommended for fireteams to get their strategy down in the normal version first. It doesn’t hurt to complete the challenge several times, as both the normal and Prestige versions guarantee high-power gear drops and a new emblem.
Apart from the chance for new gear in the challenge mode, Guardians now know the game’s first expansion will offer several upgrades. Outside of a new story and planet to explore, new and returning Vex Exotic weapons will be available to earn, as well as a rise in the current level and power level caps. On a fun note, a new selfie emote will be in a Guardian’s collection to get the perfect Instagram shot.
